Health care of the eyes

The eyes comprehensively reflect the spirit, qi (gas) and vitality of the human body. Whether the eyes are healthy or not is closely associated with the human daily life.

Exercising the eyes

Rotating the eyeballs

This can increase the luster of the eyeballs and the acuity of sight, remove cataract and nebula, remedy myopia and hyperopia. The method is as follows: after waking in the early morning, close the eyes first. Then, rotate the eyeballs from the right to the left and from the left to the right respectively for ten times. Next, sit with the eyes opening and look at the left and the right, the upper left corner, the upper right corner, the lower left corner and the lower right corner respectively and repeatedly for four to five times. Besides, open the eyes to rotate the eyeballs and then close the eyes to the rotate the eyeballs respectively for about ten times before the bed time in the evening.

Looking far into the distance

This can regulate the function of the eyeballs and prevent hypopsia due to the distortion of the eyeballs. People may selectively look far into the mountain, trees, grassland, blue sky, white cloud, bright moon, starlit sky, etc. But they should not fix their eyes on one side. Otherwise, it is harmful conversely.

“Ironing” the eyes

Rub the paalms against each other until the palms get warm. Then, the eyes and place the palms on the eyes respectively. Let the warm palms “iron” the eyeballs. When the palms become cool, rub them against each other to “iron” the eyeballs again. Repeat the exercise for three to five times at s time. Do the exercise for several times a day. The exercise warms and activates yangqi, improves sight and refreshes people.

Kneading the canthi

After holding breathing, knead and press the four corners of the eyes with the hands until the feeling of the being slightly warm and suffocating occurs. Then, take a breath and end the exercise. Do the exercise for many times a day. It improves sight.

Sitting in repose with the eyes closed

Nourishing the eyes is closely associated with cultivating the mind. When asthenopia appears, get rid of all stray thoughts, relax the whole body naturally. Then, sit quietly with the eyes closed for three to five minutes, or rest peacefully with the eyes closed at the fixed time for several times. The exercise has the actions of eliminating asthenopia and regulating the emotions. It is effective accessory method to cure ocular disease.

Diet

Eat more vegetable, fruit, carrot, animal liver or a proper amount of cod liver oil. All these foods have the protective effect on sight. But do not eat excessive fat meat and fine grain as well as pungent and extremely hotnatured foods.
